I'm rereading Anne of Green Gables right now, and my copy has an introduction by L. M. Montgomery's granddaughter. She explains that the book was rejected for publication 5 times and put up in a hat box for a year before someone finally published it. That book has sold millions of copies, been translated into many other languages, been turned into a musical! It's beloved by so very many people, and it was rejected over and over again... sometimes I think being published has as much to do with happenstance as it does with actually being a quality writer.S.B.
